Pom pom tutorial

This is just for those of you who wanted to know how how to make the pom poms on Shortie's beanie.  (especially DMC)
They are just the store bought felt balls from Spotlight. I slit them with a scalpel enough to conceal a knot.
Then thread the needle and knotted wool through the slit in the pom  pom...
and pull it out the other side...
until the knot is caught in the slit making a little berry kind of indent.
Make a slip stitch in the wool as close to the pom pom as possible and crochet some chain stitch until you have the length you want.
Pull the wool through the last chain stitch to finish it off. Do keep enough wool on the end to rethread the darning needle and sew the cord to the beanie on the inside. You can pull the loose threads through the crochet to finish it more neatly.

So there you have it. A tutorial!!! Anna will be pleased!

  1. Very good! I just need to learn how to crochet.

  2. You can buy felt balls from spotlight? It's been a while, I must be due a visit there soon. I'll have to keep my eye out. I still haven't learned to crochet yet but I'm sure I'll find another use for them in the meantime.

  3. Yes, I am pleased. Especially as you know I have no issue whatsoever with felt balls or pompoms. And still loving your UV proof nail polish!

  4. Thank you heaps Annie.
I didn't know that those felt baubles are at Spotlight.
My visits to Spotlight frighten me. My brain freezes because of the overwhelming feeling of being swamped.
I get the same feeling entering libraries. And Ikea.
    Too much choice.

  5. Those Pom Poms are fantastic, I think I might even be able to manage them - makes me want to make that fabulous beanie just to go with the pom poms but I have to finish this little granny square blanket I started. It's taking forever! Mel x

  6. You know how much I love a pom pom, nice work Annie. DMC needs to come and live in Samoa, there is no Spotlight, Ikea, one empty shelf library and certainly no brain freezing experiences. Only brain melting moments.

  7. I can never find the good stuff at Spotlight, I think I get a little overwhelmed. Impressed that you are fashioning tutorials while keenoing. And the crochet- look up African flower tutorial and see what you think- I think it is gorgeous and have made a single solitary one hexagon. However if I was forced to sit down for an extended period of time I would be churning out a blanket. melx

  8. By the way glad to see that someone else is suffering through their 3000th read of Dora loves Boots. melx
