Feeling Hexy

With Masterchef gaining momentum it seems some of the chillun have the yen to  'plate up'. Play dough usually keeps Shorty happy but I have been missing baking lately myself.
So  I had a  go at some easy familiar cookies that I have baked a hundred times. Shorty had something to stick bits in and I felt like myself briefly...

... until they came out like this. Oven too hot and I cannot do numbers at ALL right now. I read 125g and I put in 250g! It is the same with appointment times and dates. Keeno brain! I told the kids I meant them  that way and they are Hexacookies. They were good with that but have been severely mislead by my inability to count again. (pentacookie, PENTAcookie!!!)
Having indulged the desire to play with food preparation again, I spent the day back at HOCA with Frank, Brangelina, the Queen ...
...and these two who have been placed outside the unit in a kind effort to cheer the inmates. I have just noticed the one on the left is the same as the one in our garden. That penny only took a week to drop!
I did spot this rather cute hexagon rug at the hospital. This may be the next blanket in the treatment regime.
Meanwhile back home, the chillun have realised there will be no baking for the first week of treatment and have resorted to feeding themselves and each other as needed. Will this outlast Masterchef? Who will  be the winner? Thank you Channel Ten for putting it on at a reasonable  hour this year so we don't have to record it and relive it in the afternoon! Although that would be the perfect timeslot for the most popular children's show on the box!

  1. Lovely to hear from you Annie, I'm sure the kids weren't fussed about how many sides your cookies had. Hope you're travelling okay. Wish you could teach me to crochet, guess I'll have to youtube it.

  5. Shorty is getting blonder and bigger! I'm sorry you don't feel yourself. Just a matter of time though.

The hexy-cookies look fine. Don't bat-an-eyelid and they'll never know!

  7. I think the hexa-cookies turned out all right. Besides if they taste good, who really cares what shape they are. I admire the fact that you made cookies given all you are going through. Your children are learning important lessons which will stay with them forever. You just relax and don't worry about numbers. BTW, addled brains are everywhere. I have one myself.

  8. Morning, love your cookies, makes me feel better about my kitchen happenings. I had people for dinner and asked one of the lonely souls back last night and they declined! I only cooked the lamb for two hours too long, so what. I am amazed at the power of reality TV with the kiddies, when we were in Oz, Smiley got very into the Block, it was the idea of winning things, I think he thought he might win something just be being a viewer. I am coveting the mags on your lap and my lovely godson, who is tall enough to cook eggs.

  9. Does Shorty have to grow up?
    She's perfect as she is.
So is #1 son taking over the kitchen.
He can visit here any time.
My cooking is something like Julie's. Cooked to bits. Never mind how many sides.
Those cookies look perfect to me.
Love the immanence of a new keeno rug.
    Stop counting.

  11. If cookies get eaten they are just fine !kids have cast iron stomachs you know :)
When you really want to cook something, just convert the amounts to CUPS 250grms is 1 Cup etc. Much easier to concentrate on cup portions, if you are having a day where you can't manage that, get the kids to do the conversion....good math practice.
That pretty rug looks like it would be a good project, such gorgeous colours.
