Boxing day

9.30 am Boxing Day

It rained heavily last night. This morning is cool and fresh and calm. The lights are off, the paper is in the bin and they are all sleeping off the heat and excitement of Christmas Day.
Visions of sugar plums still dancing in her head.

It was different this year.

Too many sugar plums.

Three amigos in their usual position on the couch.

The fan club.

Happy, happy, joy, joy.

I forgot the Santa photo in front of the tree Christmas Eve. We didn't visit the manger after church. The Santa photo of all five at the shops never happened. We didn't eat at home but instead went to Nanna's for the blessed relief of air con and her sumptuous cold feast, no strings, no effort on our part, true kindness. I lost the stockings that I made for them each year they were born so we used some old furry Santa hats instead. We didn't stalk the mobile Santa in the 'burb. The rum balls didn't taste right. The table wasn't set up for a Christmassy meal. The Baptism candles were not dug out, displayed and lit. We didn't play the Odetta CD. Baby Jesus is officially AWOL with his manger.

Dancing in debris.
It was different....

but the same. Like me.

All good.

Onto the next chapter.

    1. If there's stuff wrapped in gaudy paper, yummy food till you can't eat any more and somewhere to get in water they are completely happy. I kind of do all that other stuff for myself I am beginning to think.

  3. I'm finding each year different too - makes me wonder if all those ones in my childhood memories ever were 'the same'... love yours this year. xxx

  4. Different but still ok is a great mantra. Actually probably the mantra that sums up our house! Sounds like you took it pretty easy and just enjoyed the moment, well done. We were the same, as the oven has popped its clogs there was no baking done at all. My MIL who normally gets birthday cake on the day made do with pancakes instead for celebration. She actually said it the most relaxed birthday/christmas ever- all she had to do was bring a woollies pav so she was stoked. mel x

    1. You have to love the Woollies pac. In fact you have just given me the thought to get one this afternoon. We had nanna's mini pacs on Tuesday but I do love the big squishy ones too! Another thing we forgot to do!

Each year is different in our house too,....I think as long as the kids are happy then all is right with the world at xmas.....I underestimate my kids, they are easily satisfied and I need to remember that....I am sorry your rum balls tasted different though...but hey, that happens too...lol...we ate sausages on the portable barbie this year down at the surf beach.........WHAT...unheard of in our family...we went totally out of the box...just us, just beach, just sausages.............different...and it was FABULOUS............heres to different...bring it on.....................xxx

    1. That beach barbie Christmas sounds wonderful. We get so caught up in trying to make it look like a European Yule that we sometimes forget to relax and enjoy it all.
The kids still ate the rum balls. There are four left.

  6. Looks like a pretty good day was had by all. The "too many sugar plums" photo made me laugh. ( Similar scenes here at various times during the day)

  7. If the kids are alright, then it was good.

The bother factor this year was much reduced in our household...I think I am handing over the reins to the kids who kind of drove the Christmas festivities to a certain extent this year.

Anyway, there is always next year. xx
