Bird Shirt and other bits.

Shorty had grown weary of her red shirt and I had been promising for a couple of weeks to put a bird on it.  ( I still find this funny and, although you may have seen it before,  I'm putting it in for Ms Julie W. of the Samoa W's.)

This Indian printer's block has been used for many a Christmas card a la partridge in a pear tree and other Yuletide birdies. My clever brother and his lovely wife brought a few of them back for me instead of a Goa t-shirt. After painting the flocked block with some good ol' titanium white....

we stuck a bird on it...or two.

These button eyes were chosen from the designer's personal button repository. They may have changed colour since. She is a fastidious designer.

Here it is with felt beaks and different eyes and embroidered leggies. She refuses to wear it....

Meanwhile the wisteria is in bloom, unseasonal but lovely.

This tree needs more of a swing and less of an agave plantation. We built a whole driveway around this old poinciana which was planted by the original owner of the house, Annie Twist, when she moved in in the thirties. More about her later.

A little surrealism in real life appeared next to the carport for a day or two to give the neighbour (and me) cause to wonder. Look, the Big Fella is floating his boat, okay!

These float mine. The moonlight grevillea is going crazy guns with big, puffy blossoms. We planted this tree for a baby's birth but I can't remember which baby.

(I still can't believe the micro-muggins won't wear that shirt!)

  1. Hello Annie!
Just dropping in to say that I've been reading your trials, tribulations, mediations on children + home for a while! I like your attitude :) And I also wanted to say...that is a FABULOUS shirt. Totally awesome. Why won't Shorty wear it? Do you think it would fit me??
    Cheers, Mook

    1. Hello Mook! It will fit you if you are the most literate three year old I have had the pleasure to meet! She has a repertoire of preferred clothes right now which include a tatty old Dorothy Dinosaur tutu, a $2 Kmart shirt known as 'the pussy cat shirt' and the Size 1 poncho. I don't care right now. As long as she is not hypothermic or naked.

    1. Maybe the birds went out of fashion while I was procrastinating and she is holding out for the pineapple or is it foxes now. I can't keep up. Annie's husband's name is even better. Can you guess what it is?

  4. Do you do that shirt in extra large sizes?
I confess to being a trifle disturbed by the rigged boat in your back yard.
Although ,it reminds me of Norfolk seeing sailing boats go past across the flat landscape.

    1. It reminds me of crazy people rigging a boat in the back yard. There is something a little Monty Python about it.

  5. Love the t-shirt! She will wear it, just now it might feel a bit too special. ? . And the yacht looks perfect where it is - it's just such a gorgeous photo. I love your posts, Annie - and I too want to hear more about Annie Twist. Great name.

  6. I can believe it Annie. My kids do that to me all the time. Although the stuff they turn their noses up at hasn't been lovingly handmade like your cute tee. It's a girl thing I reckon. I love that white chair and Annie twist sound's like she'd be an interesting lady. I like her name too (like everyone else) x

  7. Yep, she wanted a scarf. I found a pattern with no photo so googled a photo. She loved the photo but the one I made was not like the one in the photo - there are different types of Ascot scarves, who knew!. She does not like it. I've made a new one. Moral - only make something when there is a photo with the pattern. Sigh. I hate being a beginner. You are SO clever and I bet you had fun making the t-shirt anyway :-) I love your tropical looking garden too. So lush and beautiful up there. My wisteria still doesn't even have leaves on it!

  8. Moonlight grevillea ... what a wonderful name. See what we Brits miss. Guess those are uniquely Australian birds too. Love em :D

  10. Shame about the bird shirt. It looks so cute. I see it's a long sleever - maybe it will come into favour when the weather warms up...

  12. Sorry I took so long to reply to this, but could not get the put a bird on it to work until I changed computers and then we laughed and laughed, thanks for that. Spooky though I just did a whole project on Samoan birds with Bunny's class, am I a faker thinking it is art because it has a bird on it? My kids never wear the cool things I want them to wear, maybe you should not like it and ignore it for a while, then it might be cool? I know the more I push the more the resist.
