I was the healthiest looking one there which made me feel like a big, infiltrating newbie. I'm sure next time I'll fit right in. It is a stangely pleasant place at HOCA. I don't know what it stands for either but it's apparently not this or this.
The best bit was lying back in a big recliner with the warm afternoon sun streaming in through huge windows and dozing like a contented cat with a hefty dose of phenergan in the drip thingy. Isn't that what people give children to make them sleep on planes? Not so bad, I have to say. The most UNpleasant thing was the hefty dose of Days of our Lives on the flat screen opposite which was only operated by a remote that had been misplaced. Then the children's television started and there was a scary clown in a doctors' uniform giving me the ol' razzle dazzle. It served me right now I look at the shoes and socks. Maybe it was just the phenergan speaking to me...for the sake of all the innocents out there in tv land, I hope so!
Oh, the post title! The Big Fella and the first lady from 'the Whitehouse' were in cahoots it seems and that lovely metaphor- on- a- chain is now mine. See, I pretended I didn't care what I got on Mothers' Day but I was quite spoilt. The 'floating shift' typewriter key pendant came along to the first Keeno session today and felt appropriate. I like things to be appropriate, like choosing the right coloured coffee cup to suit a friend's mood when they call in. So now this year will be known as the 'Year of Floating Shift'. Life will be a little bit limbo, a little bit floaty and a shift in pace for the rest of this year.
O
More wonderful friends came to the fore on perhaps the dodgiest night of unknowns for us since the surgery. We got home to find children delivered home, bathed, fed with a delicious meat and vege home made pie, the dishwasher unpacked and five school lunches delivered packed for tomorrow- and those choc chip cookies! It's almost worth being sick to be able to witness first hand that the world is full of such burgeoning goodness. Thanks Mum, Dad, Deb, Rachel, Doug, Penny, Fiona and Iain for smoothing the way. It took a village but it worked!
PS Does anyone know what the 'floating shift' key did on a typewriter?
I love the Floating Shift idea. Didn't that floating shift make the part holding the paper slide around? I can't remember. Hope things are feeling okay today. Love your socks and sneaks.
ReplyDeletexo
I like the metaphor even more if that is so. The floating shift is the key that lets everything just move around withiut resistance to where it needs to be! You have to like that! X
DeleteLove your shoes and socks, your floating shift pendant and your friends. I did learn to type on a typewriter, but have no recollection of a floating shift key. Hope you're feeling okay.
ReplyDeleteWe need. To find somebody with a typewriter. Anybody...?

"What to wear to chemo? ...oh yes, my stripey socks!" You are a one and only, you are. Love you.
ReplyDeleteThere are two pairs left in the collection. They were Bonds and they have holes in them but I can''t give them up! I will look for more as I think they cheered up the chemo ward immensely!
DeleteI am totally bamboozled by "The Floating Shift".
ReplyDeleteI read the heading and imagined you dressed in a very colourful caftan billowing around you.
But it has something baffling to do with typewriters?
Approve of the sneakers and striped socks. Better for you to gaze at rather than numbing television.
Why do these sorts of places ie. medical waiting rooms , airline terminals, etc.insist on television blasting out to entertain the afflicted waiting there?
I go everywhere with earplugs at the ready and my iPod.
The goodness of your friends is wonderful to see.
PS.
ReplyDeleteThe Keeno rug is going to be spectacular.
The pendant is made of an old typewriters key which Deb thinks was a release key of some sort. I like how that fits my metaphor even more appropriately. Thanks for the new blanket name. Aa Anna renames the Biopsy Blanket to be the Rainbow Ripple so henceforth shall the Keeno Rug be known as the Keeno Quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm flatteted to give something to your journey.
DeleteI really don't cease from thinking and praying for you, Annie.
Bless you.
I have one word for you: SALT. Three times a day, Maldon sea salt or equivalent(1 tbsp or so) dissolved in slightly warm water. Gargle and swish around and spit out. Keep going until this lot of chemo is over. Do not stop after a week or so because you think you will be okay and you haven't got any ulcers. Just do it religiously. Trust me. xoxoxoxoxoxoxxo
ReplyDeleteDid it immediately keeno guru. I will buy Maldon next time I venture into the supermarket. I've been avoiding it for the accidental meetings with nice people who want to ask me how I am.
DeleteLove the thought of all those people there to support you......xxx
ReplyDeleteI was told by a friend doing Keeno, that icey "Slushies" are what you need to sip during I V cocktail of treatment, forget why, but was apparently the solution to some problem.
ReplyDeleteYour socks look very festive, anything that lifts the spirits and relieves boredom is all good :)
Thank goodness for your village. Sending you lots of best wishes. Your socks rock by the way. xx
ReplyDeleteHello Keeno Queen,
ReplyDeleteTried to do a bit of research around "Floating Shift", I think your friend is correct about being some sort of release key. I can't attach photos to this post, so I will text you the info I found out. The app for the hearts is called "Emoji", search for that in the App Store. . You are such an inspiration Annie. Love your Blog!!!! You should write a book, after you have finished your Keeno Rug of course.
Love Always
The First Lady @ The Whitehouse xo
Don't feel like you have to keep up the keeno updates if it all gets too much.
ReplyDeleteI love your socks and shoes as well. Such great taste.
Why can't there be someone to fix the TV? I mean really.
I'm giving you a standing ovation as to your attitude to this whole period of your life. You are an inspiration.
The first one was good to mark and I wanted to show people it wasn't scary potions in a dungeon at all. Quite a nice place really. Must get some more of those socks. They are on the way out!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have family around to help. It must have been a big relief for you. Love your shoes and socks, perfect for the first day of chemo. Saying prayers for you.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, I recall some article from somewhere (thank you acute recall neural synapses), that hair is less likely to give up the ghost if a cap of frozen stuff (thank you forgetting synapse) is worn on the head throughout the Keeno infiltration.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a new crochet cause coming on.
Sounds as though you have lots of lovely family and friends looking after you and yours. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteThe Floating Shift fits.
ReplyDeleteThose socks were bound to attract a clown; you have happy feet.
It takes a village. Glad you have such a great one that surrounds you. xx
