Hair today, gone tomorrow

I've been growing my hair for a while. I used to like it short but it grew too fast for a woman who gets to the hairdresser twice a year these days.
The honcologist (whom I might add has perfectly groomed, lovely, thick hair), said it will fall out on day 10 with the treatment.
This is how my children see me. The eleven year old likes to play with my phone and takes many profile shots in the car. Usually I am ranting at them and they are soon deleted. (The photos not the chillun!) For the purposes of this exercise I'm coming out so to speak.

So as you can see there is a lot of hair, follicular overindulgence. After all that growing though, I rarely wore it out.

It was usually contained in a knob at the back of my head.

Occasionally it would be worn in pigtails or braids (if I was going to a bush dance or stripping furniture).

More often than not it was scrunched into a messy blob and that was my favourite way to wear it.
No longer! With the inevitable baldness looming I have decided to do four styles in five weeks. So I went to my lovely friend Natalie to get my hair lopped. She gave me a haircut instead of cooking me a meal because she said it was kinder for the chillun. I had been saving a few Pinterest hair photos for a while so now I can just use them faster.
It feels pretty good to have it short again. Shorty burst out laughing when she saw it. This is a good thing as she will now begin to think it is normal for Mum to get another haircut each week.

So long as she doesn't think it's so normal that she gets stuck into hers again.

Hilarious!!!

Seems a crappy way to get to go to the hairdresser more often though.

    1. It grows too fast to keep it short but backwards cuts work well!

  5. I stumbled upon your blog recently and have been following avidly ever since because I am in awe of your courage and wonderful sense of humour at such a difficult time and because a dear friend of mine is going through a similar thing to you and well I guess I can just associate with what your writing about and in a way I guess that also helps me help my friend and understand how she is feeling. I sent my friend a book on juicing after another friend of mine swore blind that it got her through the trials and tribulations of chemo and helped her recover from what was an agressive form of breast cancer. I started juicing for health as a result and its really addictive and really boosts your energy levels. Anyway, I am sure you have probably done your research and looked into the benefits of juicing and other means of helping you deal with the chemo etc, but I just wanted to say if you haven't then do look into it. My friend emailed me yesterday to say thank you for the book I sent her and said it has really given her so much energy etc and helped her recover from her first round of chemo. Next round on Friday.
Anyway, I wanted to write and introduce myself and even though you dont know me, I am sending as much love and strength as I can muster from my sleepy corner of england.
You are remarkably brave (I am sure you dont feel it) and an inspiration.
    Much love

  10. Great hair, I have been meaning to send you a message since your blog on hospital art. I was very amused by your art therapy entry. So much so I carted my camera off to work to show you the art therapy I am surrounded by every day. Not sure how to attach the photos hence the delay in sending you this message.
Funny story, bizzarely when I was taking photos of our lovely adornments I managed to wipe approx 500 other photos. Thats not bizarre that's just the type of thing I do. No the bizarre thing is that the only photos that remained were, and I kid you not. were of a trip to Goma ( one of you favourite spots)one of which Greta was standing in front of a rainbow. There were only 4 photos of my walk in Tasmania left and these were of a rock formation referred to as "Boobs" And the others were of toes and hospital art. I will email the photos including the "Boobs"
Did I tell you " Great Hair"

    1. It's a sign again! We need to drink more tea, girl Wednesday! Last year I lost months of photos and that was when I decided to start the blog so there would always be a record for the kids somewhere of something. x

  11. Love that last smiley pic. You look lovely Annie, however much hair you do or don't have. You are one of those people whose personality just shines through.

I have a friend who had straight pale blond hair before her chemo, it's grown back darker and curly ... who knows what you might get to play with hair wise in the months ahead.

  12. Love the idea of weekly haircuts to get the kids used to it all. (and yourself) I had never seen a picture of you though and I like what I see! Can I say that out in the open? ;-)

  15. You know I have been growing mine because everything grows so fast here, but lately I have been looking at photos of myself with the shaved hair Bruce "accidentally" gave me after Riley was born and I am thinking of returning to it. Long hair is so hot and I am no good at the doo!

  16. The only thing that rivals the beauty of the hair is the beauty revealed by its diminishing absence.

Just to digress to the hospital art (sorry, I'm playing catch up). Although the lucky angel has to be my favourite, I'm totally transfixed by Mrs Vermeer. OMG the woman is texting whilst listening to music via a Bluetooth. She fully rocks!

  19. You will look wonderful. You do look wonderful. Actually, you are pretty wonderful! As others have said, who you are shines through. You've had long, you've had short, you'll have none but you will always be Annie, so it doesn't really matter quite how your head is adorned.

a great deal of work? I've absolutely no understanding of computer programming but I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future. Anyways, if you have any recommendations or tips for new blog owners please share. I know this is off topic however I just had to ask. Appreciate it!

  24. Hi! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers?

I'm kinda paranoid about losing everything I've worked hard on.

    Any suggestions?
